Coco & Kate Q&A – ‘How Will I Ever Choose My Wedding Dress?’
Hello again and welcome to November! Oh my goodness, aren’t we speeding towards Christmas now? I can’t wait and am feeling excited already. I’m also excited today to start a new series of blog posts, so say hello to the Coco & Kate Q&A. I’ve been listening to all the feedback my fabulous brides have given and have noted down all of the questions I’ve been asked. Over the next few months, I’m going to try to solve some dilemmas and give you a little bit more information so that you’re armed with all the info when you’re on the hunt for ‘the one’. Anyway, today’s topic for the Q&A is all about your first steps on the road to wedding dress heaven… Help! I’ve got no idea where to start - how do I know what will even suit me?
Before you come for your appointment, perhaps have a look at a few wedding blogs (like our favourite, Love My Dress) or magazines. You could start a Pinterest board to keep track of the gowns that catch your eye or go old school with magazine clippings in a notebook! This will help you get an idea of shapes and styles that you like etc. but remember, there’s no substitute for trying on dresses to find out what really looks good.
What’s on-trend? Does it matter?!
Well, I wouldn't worry too much about 'trends' as they come and go and in years to come, you want your pictures to look classic, not dated! It’s far more important to choose a wedding dress that suits you, and we can look at adding little details (like a belt for example) to bring a personal touch to your wedding day look. You also need to feel comfortable and confident on your wedding day and that comes from wearing the right dress for you, not one that you think you should like.
I like the thought of a dress that’s a bit different - what can you suggest?
Maria Senvo, a designer we’re proud to stock, has the most stunning playsuit in their bridal range! If you’re not feeling that brave, you could consider different shades for your dress as opposed to traditional ivory or white. At Coco & Kate, we love delicate blushes, champagnes, silvers and oyster shades. These hues are amazingly complimentary on most skin tones and are a little bit unexpected without being unbridal!
Do I need to bring shoes & underwear and everything with me to my appointment? I’ve not chosen those items yet!
Please don't worry! We have the shoes and you’re welcome to borrow them when you visit. It's always a good idea to wear a well fitting, strapless bra but this certainly isn't essential and don’t feel you need to buy anything just for your appointment. We can tuck the straps of a ‘normal’ bra away and we’d much rather you wear whatever makes you comfortable. You will need your wedding shoes and underwear for your first fitting however and this will be around 2-3 months before your wedding.
Who should come with me? I’m worried I won’t be able to choose on my own but I don’t want anyone else’s opinion to influence mine!
This is always a tricky question to answer because I absolutely know how great it can be to share a wedding dress appointment with friends and family. However, I would say that you don’t really want to bring more than a couple of people and make sure you trust them implicitly. Having more people with you can certainly cause conflict of opinion and I want you to have plenty of space in the boutique to swirl and twirl as you try dresses on! If you decide to visit us on your own, that’s absolutely fine and we often have brides come alone for exactly this reason - they want to make their own decision (and it’s a great surprise for everyone too!)
Where do we even start when I come for an appointment?
Well, I believe the best things always start with a lovely chat and refreshments so that’s just what we’ll do. We will guide you through the collections and answer any questions you may have and then, once you’ve chosen the dresses you’d like to try on, it’s dress-up time! Wedding dress appointments at Coco & Kate are relaxed and fun so come along ready to enjoy yourself.
When I do find the gown for me, what happens then?
We take your measurements, discuss the order and also any bespoke touches that you might like made to your dress. A 50% deposit is paid, then you can relax and just let us do the rest! We’ll call you when your dress arrives so that you can come in and have an initial trying on of your very own wedding dress and clear the remaining balance. We can then also discuss alterations and accessories - remember that if you purchase you wedding gown at Coco & Kate, you’ll also receive 10% off all our beautiful accessories.
I really hope that you’ve enjoyed this little Q&A. Have you got any wedding dress questions you’d like me to answer in a future blog post? Just drop me a note – firstname.lastname@example.org - if you have and I’ll be very happy to help.
Have a lovely week,
